Ok, so my old reliable, been working for 6 years, never failed ato needs ro be replaced. It still works but it is ugly and kind of obtrusive. So I'm considering two options--the Hydor model and the Smart ATO. I would like pros and cons for both units.
Thanks

Re: Sooo.....
Wow, and you don't have to get butt-hurt. I was pointing out that you seemed to maybe have misunderstood what I put as my units. Regardless, you are wrong in that two times natural seawater is "acceptable". Same to you though; run your tank as you see fit.

Re: Sooo.....
That is degrees of hardness not ppm or meq/L. Three different measurements. 4.5 meq/L=12.6 dKH=225ppm. Here is the conversion 1 meq/L = 28dKH; 1 meq/L - 50 ppm.

Re: Sooo.....
Actually it IS very high. That is in meq/L which equals 225 ppm. Natural seawater is 125 ppm. I lowered my dosing of Alk to a very small amount per day and did a couple of slow heavy doses of Ca+ over several days. I also added a dosing pump and now everything is done by it. Tank and corals are all ...

Re: Sooo.....
Yeah, I did a couple of overnight drip doses to raise it "kind of" quickly but not so fast that it would precipitate out. I also just got a dosing pump and started it. I'm adding only 1ml of alk per day and 50ml of ca++. I will test my water tonight and see where I am and go from there. No...

Sooo.....
Okay, so I noticed that a couple of my corals were looking a bit wonky; Monti caps had bleached spots, Acros stopped growing etc. I tested my water and (I'm typing from work so I don't remember all of my numbers) but this is what I found: Alk is very high--over 4.5 meq/L (Hanna) Mg a little low--jus...

Need to make some room
Okay, so I need to make some room in my tank as it is def getting over crowded. I have the following for sale and if you are interested just PM me. Wes Golden Torch--$10 per head--color was much deeper when I bought it, but like all of my corals--they grow great but the colors tend to be dull. Frog ...

Re: RTA Red Turf Algae Problem
Hey Pete. The crap you are battling looks like what I had. I took me forever to get rid of it, and I'm still not sure exactly what I did to beat it. I tried dosing my tank with the H2O2 but didn't see much help, so I actually took each rock out and dipped them in a high concentration, then rinse in ...

Sailfin Blennies
Okay, Gman. Be on the look out for these little guys. I'm sure you remember them but since they are just making a comeback into the trade, I know they will be a hot item. I know I will want one for sure.
