Re: Say hello to my little friend!
You only have the one? We always used to get and sell them in pairs. They don't get much bigger than about 1.5". They don't hide unless really harassed, so wherever you put dinner is where they hang out. They're actually kinda cocky towards curious fish. They like chocolate chips.

Re: Discus Member
I usually tend to downplay the importance of post counts. I have always regarded it as merely a vague indication of how vigorously a member has participated on a particular forum, rather than how much they know. Since one could answer the most basic questions innumerable times, increasing their post...

Re: ?? About RO/DI Water Unit
I heard about a radio station-sponsored contest a few years ago where a woman died. The goal was to see which contestant could drink the most water before dropping out. And that was just plain tap or bottled.

Re: A Very Bad Day
UV was very typically used, but with the knowledge that its efficiency was limited. That is to say only the organisms that actually were pulled through and were sufficiently exposed to the UV were potentially affected. The feeling with diatom was that, if the organism was pulled into the filter, it ...

Re: A Very Bad Day
I don't know what the upshot of using one on a reef tank today would be, but my best non-medicinal success against ich back in the old days was a Vortex D-1 Diatom Filter-- the ultimate mechanical filter that also removes organisms the size of ich dinoflagellate cysts. In the event of an outbreak, I...

Re: Bristle Worms
Aren't mantis shrimp known to be effective control for bristle worms? Of course, aren't mantis shrimp known to be major PITAs for everything else?

And be prepared to get out your wallet...
Years ago, in building a reverse-flow undergravel, we were told we had to use Excelon clear PVC pipe in saltwater. Today, we know that's not necessarily true, but that stuff was EXpensive.

Re: My LFS
No, it's long gone. (Had I continued in that location, it would have been under about 6-8 feet of water around 4 years ago.) About a year into it, I became disenchanted with the "partnership" aspect of the operation (read: If I didn't do it, it didn't get done), and took a management posit...

We used to push hw MarineMix (aka Hawaiian Marine) back in the day, and briefly tried Marine Environment salt, but they had no distribution down here. It didn't prove any more popular than the hw, though.

Bump.
Remember, folks, if you would like to have us feature your tank on the website main page, you need to be proactive. Set yourself up a Google account, upload some photos to a Google Picasa album, and email or PM me the link code for an "embedded slide show".
