Re: RTA Red Turf Algae Problem
Try 1ML peroxide for every 10 gallons daily for 3-6 weeks. It's part of the Bryopsis treatment but may help. Doesn't hurt the tank from what I can see. Been using it a week now. I don't want to #@$%# this up :) so let me make sure I have this right :) I have a 170g system, so I dose 17ml of peroxid...

Re: RTA Red Turf Algae Problem
This stuff isn't like Cyno Algae that is pretty easy to remove from your Live Rock and Chimi Clean won't touch the stuff. You can remove it with a pressure washer, if I could take the LR out of the tank, which I can't because of the SPS corals. Sea Urchins will eat it, the one I have in the tank tho...

Re: RTA Red Turf Algae Problem
Post a pic and see what Gman says to do. If not post one and see what Tobias says..... This stuff is really hard to get a picture of, I will have Bert try and get a good one though. Here are a couple of links that pop up when I do a search on the computer for Red Turf Algae. The first one is NOT wh...

Re: RTA Red Turf Algae Problem
Im running bio pelletts, still have some Briopsys but no red algae at all. I did give up and opt for chemi clean in the DD and it worked with no return so far. I treated the tank with Chemi Clean for 48 hours, it pretty much did nothing to this stuff I have :( I really didn't think it would as its ...

Re: RTA Red Turf Algae Problem
Did my second weekly 25g water change yesterday, which is right at double the size of my normal water change, trying to lower the nutrients in the tank. I am hoping I can get the nutrients low enough in the tank that the RTA starts to die from starvation. Is anyone still using Bio Pellets, I could s...

RTA Red Turf Algae Problem
I figured since my Byropsis problem is, hopefully solved, I would start a post on my Red Turf Algae (RTA) problem :) Now, as for my Red Turf Algae problem, I don't know about this stuff. My plan of attack is to keep my wife from feeding the tank, have been successful on that front and to do larger w...

Re: Byropsis Algae
Well, I pretty much have the Byropsis eradicated from the tank. What I could do before now, was to manually remove most of it from the tank, within two days it was back to what it was before I removed it. I started seeing pieces of it floating around the tank, a couple of days after seeing that, I m...

Re: Byropsis Algae
Sitting here this morning, having my Zen moment looking at the tank and noticed a few pieces of the Byropsis floating around the tank. Now, I don't know if a crab or fish knocked some loose or the magnesium is starting to have an effect, either way, will keep watching to see what goes on with it.

Re: Byropsis Algae
I will get a new test kit, just to make sure I am where I think I am with the mag. levels. Also sounds like my Red Dragon might be at risk I have to try and get rid of the Byropsis though.

Re: Byropsis Algae
The salifert magnesium test kit is linear, after you use your full mL, suck up another mL. Start adding it like you have not tested and record your result like normal, then add your result to 1500. A quick FYI, high mag can kill acros. It will cause their flesh to bubble, then peel off. I had it ha...

Re: Byropsis Algae
I hadn't thought about this, the higher Magnesium levels might do a number on the Algae Scrubber It is what it is though.

Re: Byropsis Algae
I added another 25ml before bed last nite before bed and another 50ml this morning, retested this afternoon, we are now at 1500 magnesium level. Sooo I now have a problem :) I am using a Salifert test kit, the highest it goes is 1500 :) I need another test kit. What kind of test kit can I get the wi...
