Re: New Fish

After adding my tank water to my new fish bags and then disposing of this water........... I should replace this water in the sump with salt water and not tap water in order to replace the lost salt ??? Whenever you physically remove water from a saltwater tank, you need to replace it with saltwate...

Thanks very much. I think, even though some people may resist this idea initially, they'll see in the long run that it will make this a cool place to talk aquariums with everybody. There's something about having your name on what you write that makes people think twice about being a**holes.

Welcome to the fishystuff.net forum. I'm guessing from reading the SWAT forum, you are maybe related to "mernst". While you may well have registered with something derived from your actual name, what we're hoping for on this forum is interacting with eachother as if we were at the pet shop...

It's do-able. Being freshwater makes it easier. You can take some dechlorinator with you and change out some water if necessary along the way. Be sure to match the water temp if you do, and don't change more than half. If you don't have too many fish, or can separate them into more than one containe...

Axis is pretty much the big name in network cams-- even if you've never heard of them. The 2100 was the best seller for the longest before the smaller and just-as-capable 205 came out. My Intel was $99, but when they got out of the market, they dropped the price to $49-- I was able to get Amex to do...

Try Amazon. The top sellers are usually a good way to get an idea of what's popular, and when you view an item, there's that list of "percent of people who viewed this bought either this or whatever else". There are two options-- either a webcam (USB) or a network cam that connects to your...

It seems your maintenance plan is more than sufficient. What and how much/often do you feed?

It's especially important to understand the "only the water evaporates" principle with saltwater tanks. Many years ago, an exasperated customer levied an age-old complaint, "Whenever I buy a new fish from here, it dies the first week, but all my old fish are fine." All the standa...

I aways used to recommend a rule-of-thumb of about 3 watts per gallon. So, that means 100 watts for a 29 or 30 gal; 150-200 watts for a 55 to 75 gallon, etc. This assumes a typically heated or air-conditioned environment. Two important things to remember about a heater are: 1. It's not so much that ...

Hello

I am from south LA, and was in the retail and wholesale pet business for 20 years. I started with aquariums back in the early heyday of saltwater, just after it had become widely available to everyday hobbyists. Back then, a saltwater aquarium filter was an undergravel built into the tank using eggc...

Faux Rocks

I would be interested in hearing from anyone with experience in pond feature building using techniques to create artificial rocks and boulders. There seems to be a lack of info on the web, other than commercial instructional videos.
