All dead?

Post by JimmyZ19 » Sun Mar 02, 2014 7:54 am

Here's how the story goes. I have a neighbor who is into cichlids, big time. Apparently a fish guy friend of his who he calls the fish man talked him into a saltwater nano. It's a 2 gallon Aqueon evolve. He says, "hey you into saltwater tanks?" I say "yes." He continues to tell me to come over and get this coral from him before it dies. I see an unplugged half empty sulfur wreaking nano tank. To me the Zoa's and GSP that once was look dead but I can't be sure. He says it had been sitting there for a week like that. So I do a water change, add carbon, poly pads and a nano heater. Is it possible for Zoa's to survive neglect like that for a week? The water no longer smells and the coral are kind of a grey/white tissue colored with no polyps. The GSP is still purple but no polyps. I'll post some pictures but I was wondering if trying to get this guy back on track without starting over is a battle that can be won? I'd like to help him salvage the coral rather than throw it all away.

GSP may survive. Have seen a rock with GSP sit out of water for 2-3 days and it still made a comeback. That stuff I tough. The zoas are probably toast.

Well I think I could save the GSP but the little fixture that the Aqueon evolve systems come with are not powerful enough. So I'm debating if it's even worth upgrading the light. Any cheap DIY or Lowes project suggestions welcome. Their are a couple Zoa's that look like they could be saved if I get a moderately acceptable light over them.
