2 dead fish in 3 days

2 dead fish in 3 days
so i woke up Saturday look in my tank as i do every morning and i see my brown powder tang dead in my rocks then today get home from work find my fav fish my Mandarin dead i tested my water and found my ammonia at 0.25 my nitrates at 10ppm doing a 15g water change its 100g tank

How old is the tank, you should have 0 ammonia.

its about 6 months old i did a water change going to do another one in a few days. i did mess with my sand the other day and probably caused that problem

Gman and Richard are right. After you messed with the sandbed did you notice a "rotten egg" smell? If not, that is good as hydrogen sulfide is extremely toxic to your tank (high doses are bad for us as well). If you did smell you need to do major water changes, test a lot and run carbon. If not then you are on the right track with water changes.

no smell when i did it.. did a 10g water change last night and a 20g tonight going to test again tomarrow after work thanks for all the info.. i figured that where i messed up. hopeing after this it will be back to normal.. now another thing is i have a hob filter that has 2 bio wheels could that be a problem kinda like the bio balls in a sump
