Bristle worms

Post by bluwtr » Mon Nov 08, 2010 12:14 am

Hey all. My tanks been up and running for a little over two months now and even though algae is kicking my butt at the moment, I've got a question. At night when I break out the flashlight with the red lense, I've yet to see any bristle worms and and very few pods. I would think that I should be seeing some by now but I'm not even seeing the tiny ones under the sand next to the glass. I've got about 50-60 lbs of LR so I would think I should see something. Should I try to get a couple from someone and then let them "do their thing" and make more, or is there possibly an underlying problem that I'm not seeing/ thinking about? The 30g tank I had before the store was LOADED with b.w.'s so that's what I'm comparing it against. Right now my water params are: NH3, NO2, PO4--0; NO3-10ppm, pH 8.1, alk 4.1 meq/L, temp 80, sg 1.025, Ca+ 420.

Thanks for any advice.

It seems to me that the diversity of life on live rock is not what it once was, even just a few years ago. A lot of the aqua cultured and " pre-cured" rock just looks like purple base rock to me. I think people have gotten so paranoid about getting unwanted "life on live rock" suppliers have gone mostly to this more sterile rock. Thus the biodiversity including worms, pods, starfish, shrimp, coral we were use to seeing is almost non-existent.

You now not only have to pay out the nose for rock, but also for the creatures to seed it with.

dont panic,
your tank is a virgin by all practical standards, they are in there just not in big numbers but they will be...give it time big boy :)

Yes sir. I'm hurrying up and waiting!!! :wtf: I want crap running all through my sand and climbing on rocks an such. I actually thought that I would have seen even a couple by now. Oh well, back to watching the algae!

I'm sure it will come, I'm just impatient. I really thought I would see something by now however. :(
