Hot weather, warm water, kills fish......

Post by guitarest » Tue Aug 09, 2011 11:46 pm

Today was my normal weekly visit to a few spots to catch some small shrimp and crabs to feed my tanks and hopefully catch something weird.

I got to the Long Beach Harbor and the first thing that hit me was a rotting seafood smell. It was low tide and almost everywhere I looked was dead Rock Crabs and these were adult crabs, many dead Robinfish. Oysters were dead and cracked open in the heat. The last insult was not one small shrimp caught, I didn't even see any minnows and every scoop of my hand nets pulled in small dead shell fish. I spoke with the harbor master and he knew of the dead fish and crabs and the entire staff has been picking up dead animals for two days now.

I hope the weather breaks soon before more deaths happen. This weekend is the Long Beach Harbor Fishing Rodeo; thats going to be interesting for sure with all the dead fish.
