Can I convert my saltwater tank to a freshwater tank?
I have had a fish only saltwater tank for about 4 months, but I think I like doing freshwater tanks more. So how hard would it be to convert it to a freshwater tank. It is a 100 gallon tank with an undergravel filter. One more question, can I use the live rock I have or do I need to sell it.

I would assume it would be just as easy as going from freshwater to salt. All you would need to do is empty out all the saltwater, clean the tank out, and wash all the equipment thoroughly of any salt buildup and the just replace with freshwater, obviously you would let the tank cycle with fresh water for a couple days and get the water tested to make sure its good to go for frshwater. As for the live rock im not sure if u can use it for fresh water but if u can it would probably have to cleaned off and the main purpose of it would be for looks but hopefully someone can get on here and better explain that one but I would assume the live rock would need saltwater to thrive. Hope that helps you out.

PS.
You can try and Google and see what comes up for converting salt to fresh but it shouldn't be a difficult process at all. And if u sell the live rock are you going to post it here?

Well I don't really know the going price for it or what kind it even is so I wouldn't know what to sell it for. I have no problem selling it. I just don't know how much to sell it for?

Is it already cured? If you want you can throw me a text and we can talk About it but I know almost every place I've seen selling live rock sells it by the pound and the more weight u buy at a time the cheaper its is priced. Throw me a text and we can discuss it more! 954 651 7784 and my names Anthony.

The live rock is cured, but some of it may be dead so you may need to seed it. I am not sure how to tell if the rock is dead or not.

You can't tell by just looking. If the rock has been in a tank with an ammonia source it will be alive--the bacteria will have food etc. If the tank has been shut down with no fish etc in it then the rock MIGHT be dead. If the population of bacteria, fungus, micro stars, bristle worm etc. etc. etc. was large, then the dying stuff could in theory support the bacteria.

It is in a 100 gallon tank with a few fish so I am assuming it is still alive. I just am having mixed feelings about saltwater aquariums because I have always kept freshwater and I kind of want to switch back to it.

Before you dump the salt, try this. Buy you a couple of small soft corals. A leather (toadstool) and maybe some green star polyps or Xenia. Some mushrooms as well. Give them a little time to grow and see how you feel. Be aware that the GSP and Xenia can become nuisances because they grow fast so isolate them on top of a single rock. They don't like to grow down and do so much slower. Having some corals will probably change your mind and really set off the addiction.
