ATTN: Admin and any 0f those attempting to sign up

Dear Admin,
I cannot even begin to give you a number of those who come to me stating they want to sign up, they try to sign up but cannot.
They either cannot get past the security encryption part for the word recognition or they are seen as minors and cannot sign up.
I am hoping this thread will have words of wisdom from our admin for those attempting to become one of or valued members to our forums and contributors of information etc.

oh and in case anyone has not figured this out yet, I am not the Admin but I do care that you are trying but having issues. If you cannot get signed up perhaps admin will give you a email addy to contact him directly, if not mine is justfish_at_bellsouth_dot_net , and I will forward any emails to him.

Got to be careful though Ger, the small forum we had at MBRK was constantly bombarded with bots. The admin was very diligent but some still got registered. We got bots from pyramid schemes, Russian mail order brides, and lots and lots of porn.

Could be bad for people who look at the forums at work or with children around.

The birthdate question asks if you are under 13 or older. It is not designed to preclude minors from registering, but rather children without parental permission. This is a common feature of nearly all forum software. You will need to decide if you want to leave it in place and have permission forms faxed or mailed to the store, or have the feature disabled, and deal with whatever consequences may arise.

I have also "eased up" the noise setting a bit on the visual confirmation system. There is also, and always has been, an email contact right above the confirmation code window for those having trouble with it.

oh we have had our share of bots get through in the past with the swatpaintball site.
I just want folks to understand how to get to us if they are having issues without feeling like its to much hassle and decide not to join. And to explain I am not the Admin

Gerwin I would suggest that you remove the @ sign in your email addy and put spaces and spell it out due to bots unless you enjoy getting loads of emails about midgets who make it with ponies on the third tuesday of the month... lol Thats how those nigerian guys do it; bots and programs scan the entire forum and steal emails.

While on that subject I had no problems signing up. Doesn't look like too much activity here though. I posted pics of my tank in the saltwater section and have a fish that I don't know what it is if you could take a quick look please sir.

wow! see I did not even know that could be done..... and I see Admin had my back as it has been changed already and now you see why I am not the Admin..lol

as far as active, you think this is slow you should have signed up a year ago its actually not bad I like it like it is, I can better help and keep track of those locals that are in need of help, advice or just a place to hang out and blog when we are closed
