new 29g biocube

Post by Sucker_fish » Mon Jan 10, 2011 11:04 pm

New system, 29 gal stock biocube. 17lbs of live rock, 20 lbs live sand, still need about 15-20 lbs of rock to finish the aquascaping then I'll try to get some pics up.

4th day being set up. measurements below...

ammonia--0

nitrite--0

nitrate--15ppm

calcium--400

PH--8.2

these have been stable for the past 2 days, I'll give it a couple more days and check all again to see if there are any changes.

How do you like the biocube setup so far? I got a 29 up and running but not the biocube. I have been reading about them and see pretty impressed. Look forward to the pics

the tank itself is pretty nice, the filtration is not up to par but its easily fixed, I just wish I would have gotten the HQI version to keep some sps, the light color is nice, im gonna guess somewhere close to 14k so corals should look decent when I get them in there.

finally had ammonia spike a few days ago, now ammonia is 0, nitrites are at about 20, and nitrates at about 15, everything else is good, salinity is 1.024, PH is 8.4 just before lights go out, calcium is still around 390, going through algae bloom now hopefully about a week or so to go before I can add a fish and clean up crew, at any rate the tank should be ready just in time for income tax... :D. planning on doing zoas and a few LPS thinking maybe an acan or 2, purple tipped frogspawn, colorful zoas, and a lobo.

tested again today...
nitrates--20
nitrites--0.5
alk--300
ph--8.3

almost there..

planning on mostly zoas and lps, looking at maybe upgrading to led lights and keeping sps but we'll see. I'm really liking the maxi mini carpet anemones but if they're anything like other nems I may have to have better lights than just the stock ones.

rock work does look really nice. I need to post some of my pics of my first setup. I think it is ok for now, although i know that i am not nearly done adding rock. I think that i am done adding the large bulky rock. Well maybe on more. I just need to by small pieces and fill in the gaps

Looks nice. I love to see fellow biocuber <--or whatever we call ourselves. LOL. I am always interested to see what other people do with theirs and what mods they make to theirs. when i started using an auto top off, I quit using the stock filter and I cut the tab out to allow more water to flow, this helped my skimmer work better since the water was at a constant level.I added night led lights i got from gerwin, and used the middle chamber to house my cpr bc29 skimmer, I also got the little thing that spins on the water outlet and the oceanic uv sterilizer.

Well I'm going to have to chip in on this thread also. One of my Favorite tanks is also the Biocube 29. 3 years ago i had one when i lived in California needless to say my roomate stole it when she move out one day. I Have been here in Mississippi for a year now and set up a Biocube 29 again with a bit extra this time. If your interested in growing SPS corals Gerwin hooked me up with an awesome led fixture to replace the daylight power compact. All i did was remove the bulb place the LED fixture inside the light cover and plug it in with no modding of the tank. As you know with SPS corals a good protein skimmer is a must. I placed a Tunze 9002 in the back compartment by removing the false floor and place live rock in the right section. I believe the tank has been going for about 4 months and my two acros are doing great as well as my clam. If your interested here is my tank. If im not mistaken he has the LED fixture and an extra tunze 9002 in stock.

The above is a video of the tunze skimmer and upgraded skimmer cup so it fits in the space provided.
