as any one ever tried doing a do it yourself led kit i have been thinking about leds for my tank

My SetUp: 55g, 70#'s lr, 40#'s ls, 10 DIY acrylic sump, in sump skimmer, 1 Jebao wp20 and 2 Koralia 1050 controlled by a Smart Wave, DIY LED's--12 RB, 10 UV's and 8 CW.

From the little bit of research I've done on it, to me it seems just as bloody expensive and a major pain in the ass. Just my .02 worth though.

lol yes it kinda does they make it sound cheap at first but then BAM the price sky rockets lol

Yeah, I had considered it once as well, but then the prices kept going up and I said screw that.

My SetUp: AGA 150g 48x30x25, Reef Octopus Skimmer, Bio Pellet, Phosphate, Carbon reactor. Mostly a SPS coral tank with a few zoas a Green Polyp Toadstool, a Chalice or two and a couple of Scollys thrown in there. Top Off System and dosing pump system for Calcium and Alk.

The LED lights over the tank at our favorite LFS were made by one of our own local reefers. I am sure if hes still around (he hasn't posted anything in awhile :( ) I am sure he would be more than willing to give some advice on how to and if its worth the trouble to DIY.

Just my opinion , but 3w led optics of your choice and the ability to control the ratio of blue to cool white and warm white to get the color temp you want. An led burns out for any reason it is replaceable. I have had an led array oover my sump salt splash yields half the LEDs inoperable. Had to through it out. However if you like evolutions order them direct to the door from china aliexpress.com it is Chinese eBay. Recently went to Covington to buy some corals from a guy . He turned me onto this he had 7 over his tanks . Less than 200 each
