frozen bine shrimp
Ok so i know this is probabally a stupid question, but here goes anyway. This is the third time i have done this, i take the brine shrimp out let them thaw then forget to feed the fish. the next day i notice the brine shrimp sitting out, how long can the brine set out before it "goes bad" and will make the fish and corals sick? or do fish and corals even get sick from spoiled shrimp like us humans do?

Re: frozen bine shrimp
Frozen brine shrimp are not a cooked food. Human food safety guidelines state that raw product left out between 40 and 140°F more than 2 hours is a prime breeding ground for the bacteria responsible for food-borne illness. The bacteria, in and of themselves, are not poisonous, however, their waste products are, and while heat may kill the bacteria, their waste products are not neutralized by heat of cooking.
A better option might be to thaw in the refrigerator. It would take longer, but when/if you forget, they should still be safe.

Re: frozen bine shrimp
When I want to feed frozen stuff, I use a plastic cup, put some tank water in it, put the cube of whatever I am feeding in and stir it with a fork and tap the cube on the side of the cup. Doesn't take too long and helps me, cause heck, if my head wasn't attached, I'd forget it too!! And....... someone keeps hitting the delete button everytime I try to remember something!

In all honesty, I just used to toss the frozen piece of whatever into the tank, and the fish would peck at it as it thawed. Targeted feeding of immobile invertebrates was not typically an issue.

Re: frozen bine shrimp
what Doug said is true with the exception of tanks with overflows then the food tends to go over the edge.

Turkey baster, just pump the bulb a few times and the shrimp will be melted. Also lets you target feed andthing that might need to be fed.
