WHAT TO DO ABOUT MY POWDER BLUE
I ADDED POWDER BLUE TO MY TANK ABOUT 3 TO 5 WEEKS AGO. ALL OF SUDDEN THIS WEEK HE HAS DESIDED TO CHASE AND NIP AT MY HIPPO TANK. I KNOW THEY ARE A LITTLE AGGRESSIVE BUT IT IS PRETTY BAD. TODAY I VISITED GERWIN AND MADE THE CHOICE OF BUYING ANOTHER TANG. ??? WHAT SHOULD I DO IF THIS DOESNT WORK?

Re: WHAT TO DO ABOUT MY POWDER BLUE
a minimum size for powder blues is 100 gal. if you are adding other tangs, his 'house' may seem, cramped and he's liable to misbehave especially if your tank is smaller than the minimum.
i have a 150 gal and at one point had a reaaly good size powder blue, he was about 5" a male blond nassau, just a bit smaller than the powder, a blue tang, and a magestic angle. the powder pretty much dominated the entire tank, bullying the other fish a little bit as well. All though the powder is a beautiful tank, i didnt like his
behavior, my other fish usually hid from him. i've since lost him due too a power failure. i'll get another, but not till our house is finished and our 'new tank' is up and running, it should be around 700 gal. + . a powder ought to have lots of swimmin room in there.
if your set up doesnt work i'd either get rid of the powder blue, or the other two tangs.
Gerwin can probably shed some more light on this for ya too. good luck. keep me posted....

Re: WHAT TO DO ABOUT MY POWDER BLUE
I agree with shells, blue hippo and powder blue both get to be nice sized and can be very territorial, with these 2 fish in the same tank I would recommend something rather large (along the lines of at least like 180 gal). throwing in the sailfin probably made things worse, I would recomomend keeping the sailfin and one of the other tangs if you insist on having 2 (again I dont know what size tank your keeping them in). Right now the powder blue is the more aggressive one it sounds like, getting rid of him may solve the problem or it could just allow for the next more dominant tang to begin bullying the other one. Anyway thats my opinion based on past experiences and remember there are always fish/situations that are exceptions to the rule, trust me I've kept some stuff together that other people have insisted would never work out, then again I've had fish scrap that were supposed to be totally compatible with each other. Fish are living beings and each has its own personality just like people some are laid back while others are completely high strung..hope this helps, sorry for the long post.

Re: WHAT TO DO ABOUT MY POWDER BLUE
Best advice so far, IMO. They're all territorial-- they do have razor sharp spines on their caudal peduncles, no?-- and the hippos are the wimps of the lot, so no surprise there.don wrote: QUIT BUYING TANGS ? LOL,LOL

Re: WHAT TO DO ABOUT MY POWDER BLUE
The other option is to mix these normally scrappy genus-mates together in the same big tank, patrolled by a large-but-disinterested common enemy, e.g. a big angel twice or more their size that cruises the tank oblivious to the tangs' issues with each other, but who they all worry about more than they do about the other tangs.
