Frozen Foods
I have been fighting a losing battle with phosphate levels. No matter what I do cant get them bellow .25. I have done large water changes, small water changes every couple days, reduced feeding, reduced lights etc. My Nitrate levels are ok. Not at 0 yet but getting there. Any help would be appreciated.
So my question is do frozen foods have a lot of phosphates in them?
Do I need to rinse the foods off first?

Re: Frozen Foods
food is the second largest input of phosphates behind city water supply. Are you using any PO4 export products?

Re: Frozen Foods
Not sure what PO4 export products are...I have a 7 stage ro/di filter. I tested the water before and after mixing salt, both test are 0.

Re: Frozen Foods
Ha googled it. Got it. po4 is the symbol for phosphates. Got it..
Going to start rinsing all frozen food with ro/di water. If that doesn't help, think I will try vodka dosing.

Re: Frozen Foods
Vodkay won't remove phosphates directly. You will need to use granlar ferric oxide (GFO) or Xport PO4 by Brightwell (my pesonal fav). Rinsing is a start however. Go see Gerwin and Rog and they will get you on the right path for both nitrate (NO3) and phosphate reduction/removal.

Re: Frozen Foods
Wes is right the NO3po4 stuff works great on lowering Nitrate took mine from close to 60 down to 0 or at least undetectable in 4 weeks, maintanance cost for a 300 gallon system is about 30 cents a day so it is cheap it has seemed to help with the phosphate some but it does not do it by itself I do not think.
I am running 6 cups of HC GFO on my system and am on the 4th week of it holding levels below .06 I normally have had to change it out every other week when levels got to .1 Just my experience yours may vary.
