hmmmm, things that make you go hmmmm

well I do not think its splitting and cannot say I have ever seen that, but if I was to take a WAG (wild ass guess),
I would say its digestive tissue of some sort that is expelling through its oral disk area and would go back after it burps or farts as it is its anus as well  so yes, I conclude it is burping or farting and a pocket of tissue has been pushed out like a hernia and unlike a hernia this should subside as gas is permeated through the membrane.............dammit that sounded good! should have went to med school

Sandy,

The frogspawn on this thread is from your tank. Gerwin told me that you grow this stuff really well. Although my heads seems to be doing well, I noticed the tissue around the very base that you glued them to start to recede. This worries me because it looked like the tissue was trying to "grow" past the base and create little baby stocks while in your tank.

Judging by your parameters I read in your Xenia thread, our tanks are similar. I have 2 - 250 watt HQI metal halides.

Sooo, what type of lighting do you have, where was this frag placed in your tank and how deep is your tank?

Thanks for any help you can provide. I really want this coral to "thrive" in my tank like yours!

-Jason

Jason, forgot to mention in my message that my tank is 24 inches deep.

C-21 USAF, how is your frogspawn doing? Still doing good I hope.

Well, the "bubble" is now about 3x the size but the entire coral seems to be thriving. The tissue around the base did recede about an inch and stopped...it might have been "adjusting", not sure. I've already fragged the tiny heads around the base and they are growing great.

I'm sticking to the theory that the head is splitting...we'll see!

That bubble thing is really weird. Mine has never done that, and I would have thought it would have burst by now. How did you remove the little heads from the main coral? And how did you attach them, did you attach them in groups or one by one? Did you use super glue? Also, do the small ones have a hard stalk like the big ones? Mine still has a bunch of the small heads on the main stalk. Never really thought about fragging those. Might have to give it a try now. How many frags did you end up with?

Well since I don't have any "real" fragging tools I just took some wire cutters and snipped them off the base, but one or two cracked when I did this. I took some epoxy and rolled a little cigar shaped piece and with tweezers stuck them in just enough to hold when it cured. Their tissue grew down onto the epoxy and they're doing great. I'm about to take my wire cutters and break the cigar of epoxy into pieces and glue each piece to a frag plug.

Who needs Frogspawns??!!! Get'em while they're hot! I got about six frags, but they are pretty small.

Fragging tools,,, who needs those things??? I use wire cutters also,,,, I can hear Gerwin scream  , and I also use wood carving tools and a hammer. Guess the next time I am digging around in my tank I may have to frag a few of those tiny heads and see how they do for me. Glad to hear things are going well.

Could you just pop the bubble? Or would that harm the coral. :?:

I am not sure about the harm part but I would leave it be, popping something that is living issue unless otherwise told different would seem a no no to me.

on another note C21 whats up with all your corals blowing bubbles?

Wow, I can't believe that was two months ago...well, the head with the bubble split into three heads. This thing is really happy I guess
