my snail is shell less???

For a week now one of my snails is without his shell, i wasnt sure he was even a snail until he started eating off of the front glass. Its interesting to see these little hair/barblike protusions expand from his skin and if he gets scared they suck in and he tucks his head in just as if he still had a shell. he even has coraline alge growing on his back now. because of the purple algae he looks like a bloody booger crawling around..LOL. has anyone ever seen this or know why he would do this?? I wonder if because there are no real preditors in the tank he just decided forget carring this heavy shell everywhere i go i dont need it...

Does he have a fingernail looking thing on his back? If so it is probably a Stomatella snail.

no no finger nail looking thing. i am trying to get a picture of it but it is so hard to get a clear picture of it. i just neet to get a water proof case to put my camera in so i can just put my camera in the water and take a picture.

Ok i have another weird snail thing going on in my biocube now, I couldnt beleive it when i saw it. I am not sure , but i think that snail has been going in a shell for a little while then wondering around homeless and then back again. so anyway one of my big snail's died believe it or not that is the first snail i have lost btw. anyway he died and i found that little snail in his shell he struggled to carry it around and he didnt stay in it for more than a day. After the lights turned off for a couple of hours i noticed the snail naked eating algae on the glass and his big shell laying on the sandy bottom, about an hour later i happened to noticed one of my hermit crabs shells upside down in the middle of the tank and empty. I thought to myself humm guess the hermit died, a little while after that i came back to discover the snail in the hermit's shell and the hermit in the bigger snail shell. I promise im not making this up!!!! I suspect foul play. I think gerwin is putting something into the salt mix he is selling us to make our creatures more "entertaining" so we will want to buy from him!! ROFL!!!!
